Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide is proud to offer an exciting workforce development initiative that connects transitioning U.S. military personnel, veterans and military spouses to committed aerospace industry hiring partners.

The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) SkillBridge program is a nine-week, full-time program designed to train and place transitioning service members, honorably discharged veterans and eligible military spouses into aviation maintenance and technician careers with reputable aerospace industry partners who are committed to hiring them.

Applicants are not required to have an aviation maintenance background, but a mechanical aptitude is required. Since the training classroom is the duty location for active service members, full-time attendance is mandatory.

The program is currently open to military service members who are within six months of separation or retirement, as well as recently transitioned veterans with an honorable discharge and military spouses. Program attendees must meet eligibility requirements and be willing to relocate to industry partner hiring locations.

Career Opportunities

Successful completion of the program provides graduates with an 18-credit hour Aviation Maintenance Certificate, B-737 Familiarization Certificate by industry parent AAR and career opportunities with committed aerospace industry hiring partners that value the skills and attitude that veterans have. This means less uncertainty during the transition process.

In addition to the nine-week technical coursework, committed aerospace industry hiring partners and ERAU Career Services offer a variety of career enhancement opportunities, including coaching, resume writing and industry partner onboarding activities.

Successful program attendees will receive one guaranteed interview with one of our recognized industry hiring partners.

Aviation Industry Overview

According to Boeing’s Pilot and Technician Outlook 2023-2042, long-term demand for newly qualified aviation personnel remains strong, as 649,000 new pilots, 690,000 new maintenance technicians and 938,000 new cabin crew members will be needed to fly and maintain the global commercial fleet over the next 20 years.

Additional information can be found at:

Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate

  • Simply put, the A&P opens doors to opportunities, offers job security and can increase earning potential.
  • Some positions require an A&P based on FAA regulations (used to perform and document maintenance, etc.).
  • Some companies view it as proof of experience beyond years in positions, as it shows a breadth of documented experience.
  • There are certain aircraft maintenance positions that do not require an A&P, however, adding one often increases salary for the same position.
  • While this is most beneficial for maintenance positions, it also enhances secondary career transitions (safety, maintenance management, aerospace engineering, unmanned systems, training, etc.)
