Daytona Beach, FL, June 1, 2009 – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Worldwide Campus (ERAU) and the University of Central Florida (UCF) have teamed up to offer graduate courses leading to a master’s degree in modeling and simulation from UCF. The two universities designed the program for working professionals who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in modeling and simulation, and who will pursue the degree as part-time students.
“Embry-Riddle Worldwide is proud to partner with UCF to provide a master’s degree in modeling and simulation,” said John R. Watret, Ph.D., Embry-Riddle Worldwide’s chief academic officer. “UCF’s strong technical offerings and Embry-Riddle Worldwide’s first-class business courses will combine to give students an exceptional education that can work around the busy schedule of today’s working professional.”
“This professional technical master’s degree is an excellent education value, particularly in a discipline which remains strong despite the economic downturn,” said Peter Kincaid, Ph.D., program director for modeling and simulation graduate programs at UCF.
This two-year master’s program will be offered every fall starting in 2009. The program will include a graduate internship and eight technical courses delivered by UCF in an online format. Four business classes will be offered by ERAU and will be available both online and in the classroom at more than 130 of the university’s locations.
Five of the eight courses in the UCF master’s component will be offered by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Science. Faculty from the university’s Institute for Simulation & Training (IST) will offer three of the courses. J. Peter Kincaid, Ph.D. of IST and Dr. Larry Carlton of ERAU will co-direct the program.
In addition, ERAU also offers an 18 credit-hour graduate certificate in simulation management. Students earning this certificate can apply these credits toward the UCF professional management degree in conjunction with the program.
Those who enter the program are expected to have an appropriate technical background, such as engineering or computer science, through academic preparation and/or work experience. They must also have fulfilled the prerequisite graduate-level engineering statistics course or its equivalent to be eligible. To enter, students must apply online to UCF graduate admissions by July 15, 2009. Tuition will be $500 per credit hour.
