Applying For Aid
To be considered for financial aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the FAFSA website. The FAFSA application needs to be filled out every year. This application will determine your eligibility for federal aid.
When filing electronically, you'll need to refer to several items:
- Social Security card
- Driver's license
- W-2 forms or other records of income
View the entire list of documents you will need before beginning.
One of the final steps in completing the FAFSA is supplying Embry-Riddle's federal school code. Our school code is 001479.
Once we receive your information, we will prepare an award letter that outlines the aid programs for which you are eligible. Plan on having sufficient funds available for books, supplies, and any other personal expenses during the first two weeks of classes in the event there is a delay in crediting your financial aid. Your Financial Aid information will be available once you're an accepted student.
To view the information, login to ERNIE and access the Financial Aid: View Your Financial Aid Awards link under Colleague Student Services.

Check your Award Status
If your award status is pending, additional processing or documents are needed to have your funds guaranteed. When your funds are guaranteed, no further action is needed from you. Please be aware that we wait for the drop period to be over, which is a week after classes have started, to request funds from the lenders. Funds will be electronically sent to the University within 5 business days from the request. Once the funds are received, funds will be disbursed in your student account.
To check your status, login to ERNIE and access Financial Aid: Information under Colleague Student Services.
If you intend to use federal loans, you must complete the Entrance Loan Counseling Form and the Master Promissory Note. Login to ERNIE and access Financial Aid: Apply for Stafford Loan under Colleague Student Services. Enter FL in the state field and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the the school field. You may print a copy once you have completed the process.
If you do not have access to ERNIE, go to www.edfund.org and click on Edfund Loan Portal for the Master Promissory Note and Edtest for the Entrance Loan Counseling.
Refund Checks
If you have excess funds, you will notice a credit in your student account. Any excess funds will be sent to you by check or by direct deposit. You will then notice your student account will reflect zero.
To view the information, login to ERNIE and access Account Statement link under Colleague Student Services.
You can set up direct deposit with our online service.
All refunds are handled by your campus. You will need to contact your campus so they can put in a request for your refund.
Application Renewal
Your FAFSA application must be renewed annually, usually immediately after you have filed your previous year's income tax return. Income information from your previous year's income tax return is necessary for your renewal application. Early renewal is encouraged, usually by June 30 of the year you are reapplying for aid. Submit your renewal application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Embry-Riddle federal school code is 001479.
